Building Typology

1.     Which building typology you are researching?

The type of building typology that I will be researching this semester will be a Full Service Hotel. A Full Service Hotel is a Hotel that contains a full service accommodation, in addition the hotel can also contain a restaurant. As well in a full service hotel there can be a variety of amenities such as swimming pools, gym, children activities, saunas and tanning butler etc.
2.     Why are you researching this building typology?
The reason why I would like to research a Full Service Hotel building typology is because as we study the site of Red Hook in Brooklyn, New York we noticed that there where no Hotel’s near by our given Sites. Most of the Hotels are located in downtown Manhattan.  And after the hurricane Sandy affecting Red Hook really bad its now going to start to progress and more people will be visiting the Red Hook area and a great facility that should be built around the area should be a Hotel. So that people that visit the site if they wish to stay a couple of days around the area they can have a place to stay at the Hotel. Therefore, that is one of the main reasons why I believe that designing a Hotel located in the Red Hook area will be a successful building typology to design.
3.     What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research i.e.   museum for dance, school for digital media…
The specialty that I would be providing in designing a Full Service Hotel in Red Hook is that it will be a place that will have a little bit of everything that will have my customers of all ages be encourage to want to stay in the Hotel. As well I would like to have my Hotel be handicapped accessible.

And by achieving that goal I want to provide the people a place where they can experience a little bit of everything that the hotel will offer. For example the hotel will have a full service that will provide a swimming pool, saunas, tanning butler and a gym to do exercise while staying at the hotel. As well it will have a variety of children activities. In addition it will have restaurant/cafe, provided to the customers that stay in the Hotel.

Desired Site

Hi everyone the site that I would like to use for my design project will be Site 4 because I like the view that we have from the Manhattan Skyline such as the Freedom Tower and as well the nice view of the Statue of Liberty. In addition, the reason for picking Site 4 is because the site is big and even though its at the end, the edge of the site came become a nice and useful view to encourage tourist people to visit when they travel through ferries, water taxi, boats, etc.
